It may have been overcast on the coast on Sunday, but at Denman it was all blue and cu. Factor in the smooth 10mph wind straight up the strip, and a queue of one, and it was just about as nice a day as a pilot could want.

Airborne’s Italian connections, the Rinnaldi family, had their first trike flights with Pete and landed impressed no end. And who wouldn’t be happy after punching holes in wispy clouds and seeing the sights of Yarrawah from on high with Rotax air-conditioning?

I got a quick tow to base (plus a bit) in an absolute pearler Sting 3. Spent a lovely half-hour or more just bobbing around in the 400fpm climbs before skimming over the freshly cut grass to land…on my feet! Just when things couldn’t get any worse, Pete hands me a cold beer and we settle in for a wide ranging discussion in Italian and none of it making any sense.
