GLIDING FIELD DETAILS
The Cudgegong Soaring Club operates from its own
airfield located 10km north of Gulgong township. It can be
accessed via Barneys Reef Road and Stubbo Road from the west.
Access from the east is not advised if you are not familiar with
the area. Best Access is via Stubbo Road: From the Ten
Dollar Town Motel drive north on Medley Street (Barneys Reef Road) for
7 km. Turn right into Stubbo Road and continue for
another2km. The airfield is on your left.
Beela Road Access:(east access) From Loneragans Flour Mill drive
north on the Ulan Road for 8km. Turn left into Beela Road and
continue on for another 4km. The airfield is on your right. Those
traveling from Merriwa-Ulan will pass Beela Road before reaching
Gulgong. Both Stubbo and Beela roads are gravel roads.
The field is on coordinates 32.18.02S 149.33.42E, Elevation
1500`. It has an all over grass surface and a usable length
of 2km (over
6,000 ‘) in an east/west direction. There is ample area for aero
tow
take offs in any direction .
The Club has two hangars, a large one with a machinery (winch, tow
cars, tractors) annex attached and a smaller hangar located 1000 meters
from
the other with a repair workshop attached. Space may or may not
be
available in these hangars for hang gliders and tugs, depending on how
many club member's aircraft are there at the time.
There is a permanent tie down area with ample room to
tie down tug aircraft if hangar space is not available.
There is a Club House with verandahs. Toilet and showering
facilities with hot water are adjacent.
Space is available for a limited number of caravans and
tents. The charge for using a site is $7.00 per person per
day. This is
to cover the cost provision of services such as showers, water and
lighting.
Battery Charging 240 volt AC power is available at the site but
only in the eastern machinery shed. NO 240V power is available in the
club house or western hanger, but, 12V DC solar charged battery power
is available if you can use it.
Water Supply The main water supply at the airfield is from two
5000 gallon rainwater tanks that can be refilled if and when necessary
from the town although careful use of it would be appreciated.
Meals: Catering for the presentation dinner will be
provided at the airfield. The same good facilities for cooking are
available for you to cook your own meals on the airstrip. The area is
geared to the
wine and tourist industry, and surprisingly good and pleasantly cheap
meals
are available in the various eaterys in Gulgong and Mudgee. This is in
stark
contrast to the sorts of meals available in some country towns.
Airspace: CTA is at FL160 over field. D571 and
R570 activated by notam are to the north east of the field and outside
the normal task area.
